Chenega is a census-designated place (CDP) on Evans Island in the Valdez-Cordova Census Area in the U.S. state of Alaska.
As of the 2000 census, the population of the CDP was 86, largely Alaska Natives.
The original village of Chenega, located on Chenega Island, was destroyed in 1964 by a tsunami from the Good Friday Earthquake, which killed a third of the 68 people who then lived there.

Chenega was a very old village in Prince William Sound, which Alutiiq people also called Ingim-Acia, "under the mountain." In 1964, tragedy struck - a huge undersea earthquake shook the ground and sent tidal waves on a path of destruction.
According to legend, it was near Chenega that Raven first brought light to the world by letting it escape from a box.
Portlock wrote that the people of Chenega were fond of fish, wild celery and especially, herring eggs on seaweed, a treat that is still enjoyed today by the people of Prince William Sound.

Chenega Technology had earlier secured a $500 million sole-source deal with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to maintain that agency's screening machinery.
In a meeting last month attended by Chenega executives and by staff members from the offices of Alaska's Republican senators, Lisa Murkowski and Ted Stevens, TSA officials were urged to piggyback on the Customs contract.
