  Malaysian Architecture: Cheng Hoon Teng temple, Melaka
Cheng Hoon Teng temple was founded in 1645 by Lee Wei King and is the oldest functioning Chinese temple in Malaysia.
The main hall was built by Chan Ki Lock in 1704 and was rebuilt in 1801 by Kapitan China Chua Su Cheong.
The temple was constructed by craftsmen using materials brought in from southern China.

The Cheng Hoon Teng Temple at Jalan Tokong, Malacca, is the oldest and surely one of the grandest Chinese temples in Malaysia.
Cheng Hoon Teng, which means Temple of Clear Clouds, was founded in the early 17th century (not sure exactly when, but some say 1645) by the Kapitan China Tay Kie Ki alias Tay Hong Yong.
The curved roof, as seen on the Cheng Hoon Teng from behind, is reflective of South China style of temple architecture.

On 28 September 1949, Parliament passed the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple Incorporation Ordinance 1949.
It meant that Cheng Hoon Teng Temple was now officially sanctioned by an Act of Parliament, guaranteeing the temple's future and its role as guardian of the community's spiritual and cultural heritage.
The prime mover, Tun Sir Tan Cheng Lock, became one of the first trustees under the Act.The other trustees then were Poh Kim Tiong, Chan Teck Chye, Loh Kim Swi, and Chee Guan Chiang.
