While the exact content of the teachings of the first two of the former three figures is not quite clear, it is known that Weonhyo specialized in the transmission of the Pure Land practice of yeombul.
This group was led by the stridently anti-Buddhist philosopher-statesman Jeong Dojeon (1342-1398) who criticized Buddhist doctrine and demanded the correction of its excesses and its removal from its position of power.

Kuiji's commentaries treat Cheng weishi lun as a catechism, refuting the erroneous theories attributed to some of the commentaries while promoting the correct interpretation, which, according to Kuiji was invariably the position of Dharmapāla, a sixth century Indian Yogācārin.
Cheng weishi lun argues that 'spatiality' is a mental construct produced by habitually visualizing some image of spatiality that one has heard about.
For Cheng weishi lun this is a double-edged sword, since while such fictions may lead people to believe in and attach to things that are not the case, the fictions of Buddhist teachings (e.g., the concept of Suchness) can help liberate people from the fictitious altogether.

Only the supramundane practices are capable of permanently eliminating both kinds, but the quelling4 of the two in their active state can also occur within contaminated practices.
The basic relationship between the hindrances presented in the Cheng weishi lun (which roughly summarizes the system established in the Yogācārabhūmi and related texts) is one that has a well-organized roots-to-branches structure.
There are already problems here, since the Cheng weishi lun has identified craving and hatred here as contributing to the constitution of the cognitive hindrances.

It is a discipline for personal salvation by the individual, possible only for those who join the monasteric order as monk or nun, at least for a short time, to accumulate enough meritorious karma for one's own salvation.
The first great time of Buddhism in China was during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, when the new religion entered the gentry class.
The most important representant is Jizang 吉蔵 whose thought bases upon the three treatises Zhong Lun 中諗, Shiermen Lun 十二闀諗, and Bai Lun 百諗, all writings that deeply influenced the Chinese Tiantai and Huayan Schools.

Taixu: To Renew Buddhism and Save the Modern World
He was particularly interested in the Weishi, or Mind Only, school of Buddhism and thus in some cases, we see emptiness elaborated specifically in terms of Weishi metaphysics.
In Taixu's view, this parallels almost word for word two terms used in the Weishi school of Buddhism, respectively, "that which is produced by causes" (yinyuan suocheng) and "that which is manifested by consciousness" (weishi suoxian).
Taixu divided the schools of Chinese Buddhism on the basis of his distinction between zong and jiao, that is, between the inner spiritual experience and the way that experience is taught and expressed to others.

The remainder of the book, a still hefty 200 pages, examines these ideas as they are systematically espoused in the extensive commentary on the Tri.m.sika, the Ch'eng wei-shih lun (CWSL), composed in 659 C.E. by the great Chinese pilgrim and translator, Hsuan-tsang, after his return from India.
The CWSL seems to substantiate Lusthaus' interpretations of Yogacara so well, one suspects that it must have served as his originating inspiration.

Xuanzang (Hsüan-tsang) [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
With the approval of his Nalanda mentors, Xuanzang composed a treatise, Hui zong lun (Hui-tsüng-lun or On the Harmony of the Principles), which articulates his synthesis.
At Nalanda, Xuanzang became a critic of two major philosophical systems of Hinduism opposed to Buddhism: the Samkhya and the Vaiseshika.
On account of the school's idealistic accent it is known as Weishi (Wei-shih) or Ideation Only School; yet because it is concerned with the specific character of all the dharmas, it is often called the Faxiang School as well.
