Enthused over the success of its recently-launched seat upgradation scheme that allows sleeper class waitlisted passengers to travel in airconditioned comfort, the Railways today decided to extend the scheme to all Rajdhani Express and 15 other important trains from February six to boost revenues and attract potential air travellers.
The trains covered under the extended scheme include Patna-Delhi Sampoorna Kranti Express, Secunderbad-New Delhi A P Express, Bangalore-New Delhi Karnataka Express, Allahabad-New Delhi Prayag Raj Express, Guwahati-New Delhi North East Express, Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, Mumbai-Jaipur Express and Chennai-New Delhi Tamil Nadu Express.
The scheme will also be applicable to Trivandrum-New Delhi Kerala Express, Howrah-Chennai Coromandal Express, Mumbai-Howrah Gitanjali Express, Varanasi-New Delhi Shiv Ganga Express, Mumbai-Ahmedabad Lok Shakti Express, Mumbai-Ahmedabad Gujarat Mail and Chennai-Hyderabad Hyderabad Express.

Rajdhani Express is a passenger train service in India introduced in 1969 providing high-speed connections (up to 130 km/h/ 81 mph) from various railway stations in the capital city of New Delhi to the capital cities of various states in India (or, in certain cases, prominent cities within the state the train serves).

While Shatabdi Express series of trains run over a short distance, Rajdhani Expresses are long-distance trains connection the National Capital of Delhi to various State Capitals.
Out of the 13 Shatabdi Expresses, 10 operate from various termini in New Delhi, and two from Chennai and one each from Kolkatta and Mumbai.
They are typically operated in such a way that they depart from their respective originating stations early in the morning, reach their destinations by noon or early afternoon, and return with a 30 minute to 1 hour stopover, to arrive back at the originating station by late evening.
