 | | Born in San Francisco, Rose Gilda Cherin was the youngest of 10 children of Russian Jewish immigrant parents, Harry and Sarah Cherin. |
 | | World War II brought them back to SF, where Cherin worked for the War Labor Board - there forming lifelong friendships that were the core of her rich social and intellectual life, and that nourished her passion for social justice. |
 | | The years 1967-1982 were a "golden age." Retired from full-time teaching and living in Berkeley, Cherin enjoyed an enormous circle of friends and a wide variety of activities: grandparenting, cooking, entertaining, gardening, house remodeling, interior decorating, upholstering, needlework, folk dancing, bird watching, traveling and volunteering for Planned Parenthood and English in Action. |
