Hood's large scale watercolour portraits examine the gaze and sensual implications of the adolescent, pre-pubescent, male youth.
Hood, who studied gender politics in art and culture and the taboos that surround the representation of the male body, commenced this study for it's political reaction and continued it for her obsession with the subject at hand.
An accomplished portraitist, Cherry Hood attained a Master of Visual Art from Sydney College of the Arts, The University of Sydney in 2000 and in 2002 won the 80th Archibald Prize for Portraiture for her portrait of pianist Simon Tedeschi, Simon Tedeschi Unplugged.

 SCA Alumni
Hood's portrait of Simon Tedeschi is a stunning example of her contemporary watercolour technique and was unanimously voted last year’s winner.
Cherry Hood studied art after leaving high school but it was not until she attended SCA that she was able to "put it all together and understand that just being able to draw has little to do with being an artist".
During her study at SCA Cherry Hood inaugurated the student run gallery, Newspace, after the smaller gallery Cherry had initiated, Gallery 132, became too small to accommodate student exhibition demands.

Pale eyes have it for artist and audience - smh.com.au
Balmain painter Cherry Hood encountered a photograph last year of a former child prodigy with ice-water eyes, decided to pursue him as a subject for a portrait, secured his consent at a concert at the Art Gallery of NSW and pocketed a cheque for $35,000 yesterday, after taking out the Archibald Prize.
Standing next to her three-metre-high watercolour portrait of the acclaimed young pianist Simon Tedeschi, Hood - who said she was drawn to "paler eyes" for creative inspiration - seemed overwhelmed by the honour.
The painter - who opts for watercolour because she is allergic to turpentine in oil paints - entered for the first time last year, inspired by the work of former winner Adam Cullen, and made the final cut.

 Hoodmod
This is a brief description on how to modify a later bug hood with the raised "pedestal" under the VW Emblem at the top center of the hood.
This modification was borne out of necessity as I needed a cherry hood for my 1959 resto and just couldn't find one (without the later hood pedestal) that had not been dented, pounded, ripped or creased from having the single hood support on the left side.
The other problem with beetle hoods is that they are oversize for general UPS shipping so it is quite expensive to ship them across the U.S. This, and their scarcity makes acquiring a correct flawless hood either overly expensive or downright unlikely.
