Called Cherry OS, it claimed to be able to do for Windows what Virtual PC does for Macintosh users.
Add in the fact that Cherry OS also claims to be able to emulate the 128-bit Vector processing functions of the G4 (called AltiVec or Velocity Engine), adding even more overhead, and still maintain that 80% statistic all for under 50 bucks, and well, you have one heck of a deal on your hands.

And they did not perform the same despite the claims that Cherry OS is a knock off of pear pc.
Once installed Cherry OS says that it is a G4 1.4ghz with 1024mb ram.
No, Cherry OS is reporting a faster processor and more ram and overall it runs faster.

Cherry died an embarassing death after the story was posted to Slashdot and people jumped all over the source code duplications.
Cherry OS was listed as one of the Top Ten Biggest Vaporwares of 2004 on CNET or ZDNet, can't remember which.
Your post is probably the twelfth time I've seen a thread started about the Cherry OS and a lot of those previous posters have been excited about the idea, failing to see the reason why it won't work and doesn't really matter.

Of course you could just skip Cherry OS and use Pear PC instead.
Note that the screenshot is Pear PC not Cherry OS.

Cherry OS is the only software that will allow you to emulate a G4 computer on a PC.
Cherry OS has access to all the system’s resources including firewire and usb ports, the CD-ROM drive and the PCI/PCMIA Bus.

Cherry OS 1.0, a new Mac emulator that runs Mac OS X on a Windows-based PC, has been released by its developer in final form.
Maui-X Stream, the Hawaii-based software developers of the Cherry OS, is currently offering a free copy of the emulator for evaluation, which has be downloaded 100,000 times since it was released on Tuesday, according to Jim Kartes, company president.
Kartes denies accusations that Cherry OS is using code from a similar open-source, PowerPC architecture emulator known as PearPC, despite various developer forum postings allegedly showing evidence to the contrary.

It also seemed that they updated Cherry OS, once there is a stable and fast AltiVec Build out there.
Cherry OS is a Mac OS X Emulator (again, its not a PowerPC Emulator, its a Mac OS X Emulator) which emulates of course Mac OS X 10.1 or higher using a G4 Processor and other "nice" stuff.

Location: Essex, UK This is the first I've heard of Cherry OS but I'm pretty sure Apple won't be pleased with it.
Apple is trying to not be like Micro$lut in that their OS is less than $200, whereas the OEM of Microsoft XP is $200 up to $400.
Cherry OS is a rebranded version of the free PearPC program.

One very nice component of Cherry OS is that it has an installer, complete with installation wizards to aid in the setup process.
When Cherry OS was first released, we all wanted to believe that it could do what its creators said it could do.
But clearly, from picking just random test sets, I've shown that Cherry OS is at best, a slow PowerPC/Mac OS X emulator; at worst, it's a rip-off of the hard work and contributions poured into the PearPC project.

But i feel it is only a emulator like many other not look alike like ydock or objectdock and there should be no legal objections till OSX is licensed, more over it is in benefit of APPLE as more users can have of feel of MAC OSX and lateron buy their setups.
As long as the OS is legally purchased i see no problems in it.

 The pits in CherryOS
There's been a lot of buzz about Cherry OS lately -- since they started actually selling their product -- but there are some real pits in Cherry OS, and the people behind it (MXS), that aren't getting enough attention.
The fact that it could boot OS X was more about showing just how complete their PowerPC emulator was -- there are other general emulators out there, but they are generally about emulating x86 or are very focused around an OS.
The core of Mac OS X is open source, their streaming server has been open sourced, Mac OS X includes apache, samba, openssh and php to name but a few, and is shipping the highest volume *nix in the world.

I have a colleague who is apple crazy so i am sure that he will have some old os cds lying around that i can borrow.
This is why I'd like to see performance figures for Cherry; IIRC it claimed to be able to emualte a G4 at 80% of the speed of the host.

cherry os lets you install osx on your pc...
People are willing to play with a super slow emulator to use OS X while they keep complaining that a mac is slow (while being thousand of time faster than the emulation).
But that is not say that OSX isn't a great OS.

It's even more unfortunate that, instead of offer up a simple one-page briefing comprising text and perhaps a single screenshot, the Cherry OS folks are offering bandwidth-hungry movies (contained within Java applets) as the only official source of information.
The creators of Cherry OS maintain that it offers reasonable performance, and is not connected in any way to the PearPC emulation project.
Until the fuss dies down a bit, and the official Cherry OS site is usable once more, those of us wanting to test it for ourselves will just have to sit tight and wait.

Just insert it, bios will not detect and os will load.
If the running OS is not suitable for upgrading, then only clean install is the choice.
All upgrade only xp cd's have two choices, upgrade and clean install, but it will not boot from a formatted hdd to do a clean install.

If OS X is only licensed to run on Apple hardware, it would be up to us, the end user, to do or not do that.

Cherry OS is not FORCING you to install OSX after you install Cherry OS.
I'd have to say ya'll can bash programs like pearpc, and cherry os, but thanks to them, and a temoraraly borrowed copy of 10.2 it convinced me to buy my first mac.

As some of you have already discovered, Maui X Stream has finally relased Cherry OS, the Mac emulator that was long thought to be at best a rip off of Pear PC and at worst vapourware of the highest calibre.
MSXINC HAS introduced an emulator called Cherry OS which it claims allows you to run Mac OS X on a Windows XP operating systems.
The $50 package comes with an installer which allows both CherryOS and OS X to be installed - and allows the use of a number of Mac applications including Safari and Apple Mail.
