Cherry Valley is a town located in Otsego County, New York, USA.
The modern history of Cherry Valley begins with John Lindesay receiving the land in a grant from George II of England; he moved there in 1739, and seven Anglo-Scotch families from New Hampshire moved into the area the following year.

The Cherry Valley massacre was an attack by British and Seneca Indian forces on a fort and village in eastern New York on November 11, 1778 during the American Revolutionary War.
Despite the efforts of Butler and Brant to stop it, more than thirty women and children, and several Loyalist townspeople were killed and scalped.
This, together with the massacre at Wyoming Valley helped pave the way for the Sullivan Expedition into the Iroquois homelands of central and western New York to neutralize the threat of future incursions.

Early in 1778 the alarming news came to the valley that the western Indian tribes were to unite with the Mohawks, Cayugas, Onondagas and Senecas in a war upon the frontier, instigated by the Johnsons, Claus and Butler.
McKean injudiciously wrote Brant a letter violently denouncing him and asking him to come to Cherry Valley, with the taunting remark that there he would be changed from a "brant" to a "goose," Brant was enraged by this letter and answered it later with the Cherry Valley massacre.
In November, 1778, he, together with Brant, fell upon the Cherry Valley settlement with a force of seven hundred Tories and Indians and killed 32 people and 16 soldiers of the garrison, looted the place, burned all the buildings and took captive most of the survivors.

I have to take the rest of the link with more than a little skepticism since it suggests that MONTCALM ordered a fort built in Cherry Valley in 1778 which is strange because history suggests that MONTCALM died at Quebec in 1759.
places like cherry valley*, oriskany, johnstown, etc and the whole "burning of the valley" are overshawdowed by other campaigns.
As a life long resident of the Mohawk Valley, I agree with your statement.
