In March this year, the High Court dismissed Cherwell District Council's Judicial Review proceedings challenging John Prescott's decision to approve the development of an Accommodation Centrre for Asylum Seekers at Piddington, near Bicester.

The Forty Foot Navigation is the alternative 'lower' route available for crossing the Middle Level, avoiding Well Creek, and using Horseway and Welches Dam Locks, which were re-opened after much lobbying in the 1980s.
