Cheryl Byron Founder/Executive Director- started her life as a visual artist in her native land, Trinidad and Tobago.
Cheryl Byron has performed nation ally as well as worldwide, her talent taking her to such places as Canada, Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, London, Kenya and Nigeria.
Byron is presently completing her Dissertation at N.Y.U. for a PhD in Performance Studies with a Certificate in Museum Studies.

Cheryl was born in Owosso, Mich. on May 12, 1944, the daughter of Millard and Beth (Heffner) Streeter.
Cheryl graduated from Durand High School, class of 1962, graduated from the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music and received her bachelors degree in social sciences from the University of Wisconsin.

Byron distributed handouts outlining “Coordinator Area of Responsibilities,” “Coordinator Compensation Formula,” and coordinator compensation breakdown by program.
  Byron stated the College does not get additional money for coordinator pay; therefore, if it is determined additional money needs to be allocated for coordinator pay, it has to come out of the current budget and something else has to be reduced.
  In discussions with other faculty members, Cheryl noted that instructors are concerned about everyone on Faculty Council looking through their files, there is no money attached to the titles, and others commented “why bother.”  Bill stated that when this issue was originally raised, the concern was instructor titles, not money.

At the time, she was scoffed at "whoever heard of poetry in a calypso tent?" Today Cheryl Byron is recognized as the Mother of Rapso.
