  Handicap - LoveToKnow 1911
HANDICAP (from the expression hand in cap, referring to drawing lots), a disadvantageous condition imposed upon the superior competitor in sports and games, or an advantage allowed the inferior, in order to equalize the chances of both.
The character of the handicap depends upon the nature of the sport.
Handicapping was applied to horse-racing as early as 1680, though the word was not used in this connexion much before the middle of the 18th century.

You can feed a chess program one of your own games (from a tournament, a game you've played at the chess club, one you've played against a computer, or the buttwhipping you took from Uncle Morty at the last family reunion) and have it show you what you did wrong.
Even though chess programmers have made great strides in making their engines inherently stronger over the last few years, the single most important factor in a chess engine's strength is still the computer's processor.
If a chess engine plays an opening that generally leads to closed positions, it's not going to be able to utilize the very things that computers excel at: tactical accumen and great use of piece mobility.

Chess handicap - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A handicap in chess is a way to equal the chances for players of differing strengths.
There are many kinds of such handicaps: Material handicaps, move handicaps, time handicaps, etc. Handicaps were quite popular in 18th and 19th centuries, when chess was often played for money stakes; a weaker player wouldn't agree to a match without a handicap.
Time handicaps are most often practiced in blitz games.
