Since I don’t know when I will be able to properly review it, I’ll just mention that the database program ChessBase9 is out.
ChessBase is easily the most popular database/analysis program and is used by all of the world’s top players and most of its tournament players.
With the earlier new versions I have always been frustrated with having to get used to new looks and methods of manipulation, finding old functions and trying to learn new ones.

Quite understandably, the Chess Informant folk release the Informants in their own format first (for use with the Reader), so there is often quite a long delay between the publication of the hardcopy Informants (which I use in the meantime) and these PGN versions.
They have database functions that are similar to ChessBase's in terms of saving games, switching databases, and the like, and games can be imported directly from ChessBase, analysed, and replaced in the original database (or saved separately).
To be fair, ChessBase also produces similar products (endgames, tactics, etc.) for the developing player, and includes something for every level of player in each issue of ChessBase Magazine.

Fans of Chessbase products will get best results using either Chessbase 8 (CB 8) or Fritz 7.
It should be noted that while Chessbase regulars have done many of the theoretical articles, you still have examples where players that are experts in a particular opening are also the ones that do the surveys (for example, Ribli on the English, and Nunn on the Pirc).
There are text notes in some of the theoretical articles, but the amount and quality varies as a function of the author of that particular survey.
