Lum and Abner - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chester Lauck and Norris Goff brought their radio characters to movie theaters with Dreaming Out Loud (1940).
The creation of co-stars Chester Lauck (as Columbus "Lum" Edwards) and Norris Goff (as Abner Peabody), Lum and Abner was as low-keyed as Easy Aces, as cheerfully absurdist as Vic and Sade, and raised The Goldbergs ethnic focus by amplifying the protagonists' regional identities.
Lauck and Goff had known each other since childhood and attended the University of Arkansas together.

Norris Goff - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nicknamed "Tuffy," Goff was born in Cove, Arkansas, but soon moved to Mena, Arkansas where he met his longtime friend and partner Chester Lauck (Lum).
Goff and Lauck also guest starred as Lum and Abner on radio series such as Bing Crosby's Kraft Music Hall; Goff also made a handful of solo appearances, notably guesting as the father of Andy Devine in an episode of The Jack Benny Program.
Unlike Lauck, who virtually retired outside of playing Lum, Goff continued to make occasional guest appearances on television in the 1960s.

 Lum and Abner
Lauck admitted that he and Goff made the script "about three or four minutes short so we could embellish it." And since the shows were live and were broadcast to different time zones over the country, they had to be repeated.
Said Lauck of his future partner, "He was just a little punk kid there at the party." Further along in school they discovered their talent as a comic twosome and by high school days were performing skits—usually flface routines—at hometown productions.
Lauck himself, during the interview, commented on the humorous situations of the show being timeless and remarked at their appeal to young people today.

Chester Lauck said "we only thought it would only last a couple of years, so we merely took a leave of absence from our jobs in Arkansas...we were more amazed than anyone when it went on a quarter of a century."
