	History of Olmsted County
		Minnesota's history is rich in the romance of the colorful explorers who came seeking a Northwest Passage to the Pacific.
		Migration to Minnesota reached its peak in 1885 and the green valleys and flowing streams of this southeastern area of the state received more settlers than any of the territory.
		The commissioners established the county seat at Rochester and, from 1858 to 1866, met in a large two-story frame structure built by Charles Lindsley and leased to the county.

		Browell was married in 1879 to Mary Jane Lander, a native of this township, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Scott) Lander, the former of whom was born in 1821 and died in 1894, and the latter of whom was born and died in the same year as her esteemed husband.

		A third stone, identified as the crumbled tombstone of Thomas Mann, the son of William and Lucy, was not restored.
		William Mann was born in Saratoga County, New York and arrived in Wabasha County by way of Erie County, N.Y., Cuyahoga County, Ohio and probably one of the southeastern counties of Michigan.
		William is mentioned in the History of Wabasha County as an early settler in the Mt. Pleasant Township.

		During the early settlement of Goodhue County, immigrants from Luxembourg settled in an area which included Southern Belvidere Township and Northern Chester Township in Wabasha County.
		Under an act passed by the legislature in 1878, the congregation incorporated as the Belle Chester Church Society, thus satisfying the parishioners in both Belvidere and Chester Townships.
		The name Belle Chester now has become Bellechester, the name of the village in which the church is located.

		BIOGRAPHY OF VICTOR A. Victor A. Christgau was born on September 20, 1894, in Dexter Township (Mower County), Minnesota, to Frederick and Adeline Vanselow Christgau.
		He graduated from the University of Minnesota's School of Agriculture in 1917, and then served eleven months (1917-1918) with the U.S. Army's 33rd Engineer Corps in France during World War I. Following the war Christgau returned to the University of Minnesota and graduated from the College of Agriculture in 1923.
		Christgau chose to run for the Minnesota Senate in 1926 and was elected from the Fifth District.
