The township Planning Board unanimously approved Contino's plan Tuesday, which would allow the transplanted New Yorker to house most of his animals in a 46-by-80-foot barn on his rural 7-acre Shanahan Lane property.
To build the barn, board attorney Fred Hardt said Contino needed a variance, or special exception, to township zoning regulations, because the property was used primarily as a home for animals, not people.
Township officials said none of Contino's neighbors complained about his animals, and several testified on his behalf Tuesday.
