During my traditional Kibbutz rounds I found this Chestnut-shouldered Petronia feeding with Spanish Sparrows close to the changing rooms at Lotan's swimming pool this morning.
Although not the most colourful bird in the world, this will be third record for Israel if accepted by the Israel Rarities and Distribution Committee and was certainly enough to get my heart racing, especially as these are the first photographs of this species ever taken in Israel.
Chestnut-shouldered Petronia is also known as Yellow-throated Sparrow and breeds locally in the Middle East in SE Turkey and Iran being more widespread across Central-south Asia to India.

In many respects we achieved our ambition of bringing regular website updates with authentic visual imagery from the field so often brought to you on the day of the event.
Our readers could find themselves enjoying the excitement of a major rarity such as the Chestnut-shouldered Petronia that appeared at Lotan's swimming pool on 26th and 31st March, or just simply enjoy the day to day rhythmic changes of migration through southern Israel.
Within our spring summary we should like to take this opportunity to thank all of you that have taken the time to compliment our site in so many different ways or have been encouraged to visit Lotan as a direct result of reading our site.

Getting excited because we were reaching the mountains we saw a Blue Whistling Thrush as we climbed higher just at dusk.
