Chet Atkins - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chet was born on June 20, 1924, in Luttrell, Tennessee, near the Clinch Mountains, and grew up with his mother and two brothers and a sister, he being the youngest.
Chet was self-taught, and later in life gave himself (along with Tommy Emmanuel, Jerry Reed and John Knowles) the honorary degree "CGP", standing for "Certified Guitar Player".
This became known as 'The Nashville Sound' which Chet said was a label created by the media attached to a style of recording done during that period in an effort to keep country (and their jobs) viable.

Chet didn't see much of his father as a child because the elder Atkins was on the road so much; his parents separated when he was six, then divorced.

Chet had been a part of the Gibson family for almost 20 years, since the introduction of the innovative Gibson Chet Atkins CE solidbody classical model in 1982.
Chet had envisioned the solidbody acoustic only as a classical model, but in 1986, shortly after Gibson was acquired by Henry Juszkiewicz and his partners, a new steel-string version, the Chet Atkins SST, was introduced.
Chet served as an active guest curator for 100 Years of Gibson, an exhibit of historic Gibson instruments that ran for six years at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville.

Chet Atkins - Country Music - Randy's Rodeo
Both as guitarist extraordinaire and prolific producer for RCA Records in the 50's and 60's, Chet Atkins was an architect of the polished recording style that came to be known as the "Nashville Sound." Atkins began life, though, as a shy, asthmatic country bumpkin growing up dirt poor in Tennessee and Georgia.
Chet's first sessions in 1947 were acoustic, traditional fare, but he quickly switched to electric guitar and began to develop the nimble-fingered, yet laconic, style that would become his signature.
Chet never scored a lot of hits, however, and his Achilles heel is that, truthfully, most of those records would sound perfectly at home on an elevator.

E-Commerce News: News: Netship CEO Discusses Solutions To Logistics Nightmare
This is a concept Campbell focused on three years ago when he first decided to create a service for small to medium online merchants that not only would pack and ship their products -- but also store their inventories in virtual warehouses.
Campbell, along with other Internet visionaries, realized that while e-commerce would surely experience skyrocketing growth, there was no infrastructure in place to assure e-marketers would be able to deliver their products in a timely fashion all over the world, or have the space to store them.
In addition, Campbell said Netship is about to close a "monster" deal with a major IT company to provide it with the latest technology and also close a deal with a major transportation company.

Chris Campbell's Blog: STR-Crazy: Improving the OpenGL-based Java 2D Pipeline
As most developers are already aware, an OpenGL-based Java 2D pipeline (henceforth known as "the OGL pipeline") was included in JDK 5.0 for improved rendering performance.
For the past couple years, Chet and others on our team have discussed the idea of "single-threaded rendering" (STR), which would allow us to interact with native graphics libraries (such as OpenGL) from a single thread, thus making those libraries and drivers happy.
This is one of Chet's favorite battles, so I'll let him describe the problem, and the solution, in an upcoming blog.
