Jamie Tomaino of Howell, N.J. in the Perth Amboy Spring Chevrolet brought the thirty- car field around the 3/8-mile oval for the green flag with Beers of Northampton, Pa. in the Mopar Performance Dodge on the outside.
Tomaino, with a strong edge, led the opening lap only to be reeled in for the first caution involving Tony Hirschman in the Kamco Supply Chevrolet who spun in turns three and four collecting up Ted Christopher.
After starting eleventh in the Car Salon, Inc., Roby's Propane Chevrolet, Jerry Marquis of Broad Brook, Conn. appeared to be the biggest threat to Szegedy's lead after moving into second.
