Chevrolet Cavalier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Chevrolet Cavalier was Chevrolet's version of the compact GM J platform.
The Cavalier had been Chevrolet's entry-level car from 1989 to 1997 (1992 in Canada), and from 2001 to 2002, when the Prizm (a clone of the Toyota Corolla) was smaller and more expensive than the Cavalier.
The Cavalier was replaced by the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt and in Mexico, the Chevrolet Astra and 2006 Chevrolet Optra (the Optra is also sold in Canada along to the Cobalt and the Pontiac Pursuit), based on the Daewoo Nubira.

Chevrolet's mission is, as it has always been, to be GM's value leader in the mainstream of the American car market.
In the minds of many buyers the good must have outweighed the bad, since Chevy shipped 261,686 Cavaliers during the year — including just 10 LS convertibles (we drove one in a test — who knew it would be so rare?).
While base Cavaliers continued with the ancient OHV 2.2-liter four and the Z24 still had the 2.4-liter Quad4 (though it was no longer called the Quad4), the 140-hp Ecotec was available in the sporty LS Sport Sedan and LS Sport Coupe.

Chevy Cavalier Parts - Chevrolet Cavalier Parts - Wholesale Chevy Cavalier Part
The GM J platform was introduced in 1981 for the 1982 model year, and except for cosmetic differences, engine upgrades and the discontinuation of certain models, the basic front-wheel-drive platform with a solid rear axle remained largely unchanged throughout the years.
Perhaps the Cavalier's greatest downfall is its poor crash test ratings, most notably the high risk of pelvic injury (according to NHTSA), and that most people tended to see the Cavalier as an unreliable car.
Besides the fact that it was right hand drive, the Toyota Cavalier also featured a leather shift knob and steering wheel, different taillights, power folding rear mirrors, side marker lights on the front fenders, and carpeting on the inside of the trunk lid.

2005 Chevrolet Cavalier - Ratings & Reviews - Ann Job - MSN Autos
The Chevrolet Cavalier is the top-selling car at General Motors Corp. While it can come decently outfitted, it's an old design with refreshed, rather than modern, styling, a crude ride in Z24 dress and an old, noisy up-level engine.
So, the Cavalier, which managed to get a very mild sprucing up for the 2000 model year, is left to take the consequences.
This disparity is especially noticeable in the back seat, where headroom and legroom in the Cavalier models are less than that found in the back seats in the Focus and ECHO sedans.

The Cavalier accelerated quite eagerly when I revved it over 3500rpm, but by that point, the engine note had escalated to a raucous whine that made me feel like I was abusing the car.
The Cavalier is fairly quick for an economy car, but it never really feels enthusiastic because of the strained sound and feel of the engine.
The Cavalier's road manners are decent for a car that hasn't had a major redesign since 1995, but far surpassed by newer cars like the Mazda3.

Auto Media 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 Review
Chevrolet's new LS Sport, on the other hand, comes close to the Z24 in power output and has nearly all of its appearance and suspension modifications, thereby draining away some of the Z24's uniqueness.
Taken as a whole, the subcompact Cavalier is a pleasant and capable automobile that feels tighter and more competent than some of its predecessors.
As for the Cavalier itself, even though it's been a strong seller and a big moneymaker for Chevrolet since 1982, this model is showing its age rather transparently.

 The Chevrolet Cavalier
The Cavalier has less wind noise than one would expect when the top is up, even at highway speeds.
Certainly, the Cavalier's optional 150 hp engine has the highest torque in its class, with 155 lb-ft. That means that, while it is nominally as powerful as the Neon DOHC (150 hp), it has more power in reality due to the torque advantage; more power seemed to be available at the low end, as well.
The Cavalier Z24 feels a lot more peppy than a standard-gear-ratio Neon, especially on the highway, where the Neon's gear ratio and small low-end torque interferes with its acceleration.
