 Slabodka yeshiva - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Slabodka yeshiva (Knesset Yisrael), was known colloquially as the "mother of yeshivas" (rabbinical seminaries) devoted to highly level study of Judaism's Talmud.
The yeshiva was located in the Lithuanian town of Slabodka, adjacent to Kovno (Kaunas) (now Vilijampolė, a part of Kaunas).
Its Rosh yeshiva was Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Epstein.

The terrible massacre of TaRPaT (5689-1929) failed to extinguish the flame of Torah, and the yeshiva was relocated from the City of the Patriarchs to Yerushalayim Ir Hakodesh.
He said that he wished to found a yeshiva in his own city, Slutsk, and R' Isser Zalman Meltzer was chosen for the challenge at the head of a group of promising students which formed the core of this new yeshiva.
Chevron was the city chosen by R' Yechezkel Sarna as the most suitable, convenient place for the yeshiva transplanted from Lithuania.

 Rav Yechezkel of Sarna ZT"L
During the 40 years in which Rav Yechezkel headed the Chevron Yeshiva, thousands of outstanding talmidei chachamim were inspired by his teachings, and then proceeded to transmit them to their own students.
Rav Yechezkel Sarna was born on 28 Shevat, 5650/1881, in Horodok, a town in Russia's Minsk district.
He renamed the yeshiva "Chevron," in memory of the kedoshim who were massacred in that sacred city.

A rebbi in Yeshivas Ateres Yisroel, which Rav Meir was instrumental in founding, once related how three weeks before Rav Meir's passing, a group of high school students who were unsure whether to go onto a yeshiva gedola or hesder yeshiva, visited the Chevron Yeshiva.
In his first zeman in the yeshiva, Rav Meir passed the demanding "pin test." In this test, a pin was jabbed into a Gemara at random and the student being tested was told which word it had pierced on one of the pages.
Years of Growth: From Slobodke to Chevron Rav Meir was born on the twenty-seventh of Shevat 5658 (1898) in Paritsch, a town in the vicinity of Minsk.

I was sent to R’ Chazkel, the rosh yeshiva (Rav Yechezkel Sarna) who wasn’t much older than the older yeshiva students—maybe 10 years—but he was an immense scholar and known to be one of the upcoming gaonei hador.
The yeshiva students were housed in the boy’s school on Kook street, where they ate and learned, and then relocated in the Achva shul in Zichron Moshe for the winter zman.
Rav Simcha Cohen is a rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Nesivos Olam, and a famous lecturer and writer on family issues, Rav Yekusiel Cohen is an av beis din, Rav Tzvi Cohen is an author who has composed dozens of seforim on halacha, and his son-in-law is Rav Y. Ades, a rosh yeshiva.

Rav Aharon Kotler (1892-1962, founder of the yeshiva in Lakewood, NJ) had just passed away, and the Ponevizher Rav (Rav Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman, 1886-1969, rav of the city of Ponovezh, Lithuania, and rosh yeshiva of its yeshiva) happened to be in the United States.
The Lakewood Yeshiva was beset by a debt of $100,000 and Rav Kahaneman labored ferociously to erase it.
In fact, Rav Kahaneman worked so tirelessly for the Lakewood Yeshiva, that people thought he may have forgotten that his trip to the United States was actually a fundraising trip for his own Yeshiva.

Nosson Zvi (Nota Hirsh) Finkel (1849-1927), was born in Lithuania and died in the British Mandate of Palestine.
He was an influential leader of Orthodox Judaism in Eastern Europe and founder of the Slabodka Yeshiva, in the town of Slabodka (a suburb of Kaunas).
During his lifetime, he molded many who would eventually become the heads (Roshei Yeshiva) of most of the so-called Lithuanian-style Yeshivot that were established in the United States and Israel during the 20th century, and which continue to grow dramatically in the 21st century.

 The Sefer Torah Recycling Network
The Sefer placed in Shi-rat HaYam is being held by a family living south of Chevron pending the relocation of the Shi-rat HaYam Community, apparently to a place in the Jordan Valley.
Yishuv Adura, with it's 46 families, is located near Chevron and Kiryat Arba and is where 5 residents were killed and 2 others injured when Arabs infiltrated the Yishuv disguised as IDF soldiers to perpetrate a terror attack in May, 2002.

Reb Shlomo Wolbe, mashgiach of Yeshivas Givat Shaul in Yerushalayims Sanhedria neighborhood (1916-2005).
Born in Berlin, Rav Wolbe's early education was in the Yeshiva of Frankfurt and in Rav Botchko's yeshiva in Montreux, Switzerland.
At the age of 14, he left to study at Yeshivas Rabbenu Yitzchok Elchonon, which at the time was the only Jewish high school offering high-level Jewish studies in the U.S. It was there that he met future leaders of US Jewery, such as Reb Nosson Wachtfogel, Reb Yehuda Davis and Reb Mordechai Gifter.

 Diaspora Yeshiva - Jerusalem, Israel
The Diaspora Yeshiva was founded in 1967 in order to help the large number of students from abroad who were searching for their spiritual heritage in the land of their ancestors.
As the yeshiva grew, it was granted the use of the women's section of the Chevron Yeshiva and later the Diskin Orphanage and kitchen facilities.
