Looking at the census, they list several counties that reported 0% of all couples in that county as being gay or lesbian couples (mainly in Nebraska, no wonder they have an anti-gay state constitutional amendment).
I would expect same sex couples in rural or conservative/religious counties to be much less willing to mark 'unmarried couple' on their census form.
Cheyenne county has 522 households with married couples out of a total of 603 'family households' (254/300 w/ children respectively)..

Cheyenne County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado.
Cheyenne County was created with its present borders by the Colorado legislature on March 25, 1889 out of portions of northeastern Bent County and southeastern Elbert County.
In the county the population is spread out with 28.80% under the age of 18, 7.10% from 18 to 24, 26.20% from 25 to 44, 21.30% from 45 to 64, and 16.60% who are 65 years of age or older.
