AOF Classic Hardcore Punk: Chicago   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
Chicago was right at the heart of it, ground zero for the Reagan recession.
The CASC shows were a great venue for building the Chicago scene, and we made a point of letting the new bands in town open up shows, especially when national bands played in town.
Within a year, punk rock in Chicago divided into two camps: the Effigies and the old Evanston crew still plodded around in their steel-toed boots pretending they were British; AoF and the hardcore kids were building a national scene in the city.

Hardcore dancing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hardcore dancing (or hXc Dancing) is a form of mosh (or slam dancing), an activity performed in a mosh pit at hardcore music concerts.
Sometimes called kick-box moshing by its detractors, hardcore dancing began to include windmills with the arms, karate-style spin-kicks, and crowd-beating (the act of tackling a group of non-dancing onlookers).
This style of dancing became popular during the hardcore reformation, when bands such as Snapcase, Split lip, and Endpoint peaked in popularity although the dance was not limited to bands of that style.

Profit and control are not goals; instead, hardcore is about doing what is fun and expressing all that a person has to offer--in most senses this is harder work than taking a crappy job in the capitalist economy.
Most of hardcores ideals run in direct opposite to what mainstream culture's ideals are--some people are just not up to living a life where you will always have to be swimming against an ever strengthening tide.
The hardcore ideals are lofty and in opposition to those presented by most other mass forms of media.

 DOA - The 4-Squares - Steve's Hamper
Chicago, as a relatively working class city, has always had a fairly strong punk underground.
This band plays a brand of melodic, mid-tempo hardcore that is generally ignored by alot of "the scene" nowadays as the trend is definitely with fashioncore and not with heart-on-your-sleeve punk rock.
The 4-Squares have enough piss-and-vinegar spirit in their music to make it sound vital, which is important to a genre like hardcore where your band has to sound like it believes in what it is singing about.

Chicago's Screeching Weasel generally has a polarizing effect on most punk fans -- either you love their amateurish, tuneful The imitation and singer/guitarist Ben Weasel's smartass-suburbanite, often pop culture-oriented lyrics, or you hate them.
Over the course of the band's career, which has lasted for more than a decade and seen several breakups and numerous personnel changes, Weasel has (in spite of occasional nitpicking from critics) remained true to his staunch D.I.Y. indie ethics, as befits a former columnist for the defiantly punk 'zine Maximumrocknroll.
Following the supporting tour, Warren left and was replaced by Danny Vapid (born Dan Schafer), known early on as Danny Vapid; he had performed as a vocalist with Chicago-area hardcore bands like Generation Waste and the Igor Skulls.

With the release of "Ten Steps to Success," the band are using their creative juices to their utmost potential by combining insane harmonies, time signatures, and vocals with your grindcore staples of palm muting, 1000 MPH blast beats, and breakdowns.

Washington, D.C. hardcore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Washington, D.C. had one of the first and one of the most influential hardcore punk scenes in the United States during the 1980s.
Due to Dischord's popularity and influence, very few D.C. based bands who were not on Dischord have received much attention from outside of the DC Metro area.
Hardcore in D.C also grew a large following in the late 80's to mid 90's with bands like Swiz, Touchdown, World's Collide, Initial Reaction, Fury, Battery, Gauge, and Damnation A.D., with a majority of these bands releasing albums on Jade Tree Records, THD, and Sammich.

During the early ‘90s, when alternative rock acts from Chicago like Liz Phair and the Smashing Pumpkins generated plenty of buzz, this little indie label began to issue a prolific series of releases that would help define the term post-rock.

Vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz, drummer Andrew Hurley, and guitarist Joe Trohman had all been in and out of various units connected to Chicago's underground hardcore scene.

As Fall Out Boy, the quartet used the unbridled intensity of hardcore as a foundation for melody-drenched pop-punk with a heavy debt to the emo scene.
