 Chicago Shakespeare Theater - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
CST was founded as the Chicago Shakespeare Workshop by current Artistic Director Barbara Gaines in 1986, a name which was changed a year later to the Chicago Shakespeare Repertory and finally in 1999 to Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
In 1997, CST announced its plans to move from the Ruth Page to a new facility located on Navy Pier, a place better known for its family attractions and in fact the most popular tourist attraction in the Midwest.
Chicago Shakespeare Theater has, since the year 2000, been in residence in a new, seven-story, 75,000 square foot facility on Chicago's Navy Pier, which houses its box office, administrative offices, and performance venues.

Navy Pier is a 3,000 foot long pier on the Chicago shoreline of Lake Michigan.
Navy Pier also hosts an IMAX theater, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the Chicago Children's Museum and the Smith Museum of Stained Glass.
On January 13, 2006, the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, the government agency which runs Navy Pier, released plans for a major renovation of the pier which would include a monorail, a larger Ferris wheel, and a water park with a Great Lakes theme.

There is a sizeable mainstage space that is based on theatre designs from Shakespeare's day; they also have a smaller upstairs studio theater.
Once you get off the Red Line there's a host of different bus lines (and a free trolley) that travels to the Pier, but if you're not in the mood for that or the buses are few and far between the best thing to do is to bring a friend and split a cab.

After seeing their production King John, all I can see about Chicago Shakespeare Theatre is this: DO NOT waste you're time or you're money seeing ridiculously flashy productions, where Shakespeare's wonderful verse takes a back seat to an abundance of automatic weapons, explosions, remarkably static movement, and passionless acting.
The acting, costume, stage direction, and set were perfect with an excellent Prospero and a superb supporting cast.
These reviews are a forum for opinions about the venue that other Centerstage Chicago users may want to know, not to order merchandise, apply for a job, etc.
