The Staleys went on to post a 10-2-1 season, ending with a tie in the Western Divisional Championship game but because of their overall record still clinched for them their first divisional title.
Staley decided to sign over the franchise to Halas and to give him $5,000 to help cover expenses, if he would promise to keep the name Staleys attached to the franchise for at least 1 year.
It was then, after the second game of the season as the Decatur Staleys in 1921, that Halas took over ownership of the franchise and moved the team north and the franchise became known as the Chicago Staleys, playing their home games in Cubs Park.

The Chicago Staleys were awarded the 1921 APFA Championship by then league president Joe Carr.
The executive committee ruled that the Chicago Staleys were the champions, based on the generally accepted rule that if two teams play each other more than once in a season, the second game counts more than the first.
If you were to follow this further, and eliminated all teams that did not play the required six games from their standings, the Chicago Staleys would have a season record of 7-1-1, while the Buffalo All-Americans would have a record of 4-1-2.
