  Chicago - Chicago VIII
This album aptly proves that Chicago will be around for many more years.
They have stayed current in their compositions and, unlike many, they haven't keyed on one sound and made a career of it.
Chicago keyboardist Robert Lamm had been the band's main songwriter to this point, and although he contributed four of the 10 songs here, only his "Harry Truman" was memorable.

Terry Kath - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
His last appearance with Chicago would be on 1977's Chicago XI (#6) ending the album's final track with the ballad "Little One" (#44).
His "Oh, Thank You Great Spirit" from Chicago VIII (#1), released in 1975, was incredibly swift and dynamic, with guitar solos not heard for quite a time in a pop album.
Family, friends and members of Chicago were all gutted by Kath's accidental death, and though they would take years to recover from the shock, his bandmates in Chicago would reclaim their fame in the 1980s, but never forgetting his legacy.

Although not terrible by any means, Chicago VIII is heavily burdened by their obvious desire to take a break.

While there are no previously unissued songs, this compilation scans the nine Chicago studio long-players that Kath performed on as well the incendiary readings of "25 or 6 to 4" and "Mississippi Delta City Blues" from the must-own Live in Japan 1972 concert set.
Although the follow-up Chicago VII (1974) is glossed over, "Ain't It Blue?" ably represents Chicago VIII (1975) and both the soulful "Scrapbook" and the Memphis-style R&B rave-up on "Once or Twice" are taken from Chicago X (1976).
(Note that 1975's Chicago IX was the band's first "best-of" and contained no new songs.) Kath's final effort was Chicago XI (1978); there is nothing featured from that album, although it is represented via the previously mentioned version of "Mississippi Delta City Blues" from Live in Japan 1972.
