He was the son of Thomas Chichele, a yeoman, and Agnes, daughter of William Pyncheon.
On two occasions, in 1421 and 1422, Martin V severely reprimanded Chichele for his weakness in not procuring the abolition of the obnoxious statutes.
Chichele was a munificent benefactor to his birthplace, his university, and his cathedral church.

 Jamaica Gleaner - Concerning professors - Monday | January 3, 2005
The concept of a distinguished professor is a tautology to those reared within the English tradition; for, by definition, the professor has distinguished herself or himself in order to become professor.
Similarly, at Oxford, the Chichele Professor of International Law is matched in terms of status only by the Whewell Professor at Cambridge, levels that are reflected not so much by salary, but by privileges and influence.
The supplement reports that the proportion of professors at different English universities varies significantly from place to place, and that overall, the chance of being a professor at an English university is roughly one in ten.

The Chichele Chair in international law and diplomacy was founded two centuries after Zouche, in 1859, out of the revenues of All Souls College.

 OUP: UK General Catalogue
Treaties and Indigenous Peoples is an edited version of Professor Ian Brownlie's 1990 Robb Lectures, delivered at the University of Auckland in the sesquicentennial year of the establishment of New Zealand as a British colony.
Whereas most sesquicentennial writing necessarily deals with Treaty and related problems in the immediate context of New Zealand law and politics, Professor Brownlie, bringing the external perspective and the expertise of an eminent academic and practising international lawyer, deals with those problems in the international context of the rights of indigenous peoples.
The specification in this catalogue, including without limitation price, format, extent, number of illustrations, and month of publication, was as accurate as possible at the time the catalogue was compiled.
