 Douglas Squirrel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Douglas Squirrel, Tamiasciurus douglasii, is a pine squirrel found in the Pacific coastal states and provinces of North America.
It is sometimes known as the Chickaree or Pine Squirrel, but since Chickaree is also used for the American Red Squirrel and Pine Squirrel for the genus Tamiasciurus, these alternative names are better avoided.
The Native Americans of Kings River called it the "Pillillooeet", in imitation of its characteristic alarm call.

"The two common tree squirrels in New Mexico are the tassle-eared or Abert squirrel (Sciurus aberti) and the chickaree, red, or spruce squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus.) The chickaree is found in mixed coniferous and in spruce-fir forests in the higher mountains.
There is some overlap in habi tat between the two tree squirrels: chickarees may be found in the ponderosa zone, and tassle-ears in the mixed coniferous, but ordinarily the habitat di fference is fairly well observed.
In the extensive spruce forests of the Jemez and the Sangre de Cristo mountains, chickarees (red squirrels) are widespread and common.

Chickaree has been on 3 shows so far and has 2 Junior CAC's, BOB Junior and one BOB puppy title.
Last show was on this Saturday, a special show for terriers and I was pleased with her results from a terrier specialiced judge.
