My household has differing theories, I never use chicken marinade unless it is at the start of the cooking process along with the chicken.
However, it worries me greatly that basting could be an option as you have "Cooked" or cooking chicken with raw "chicken" as in the juices.
Next add the chicken and mix, make sure that every piece is well covered, cover the bowl and marinate overnight or a minimum of 4 hours.
