Members will, I am sure, have noticed numerous examples in the press where this occurs: eg "....the Chief Fire Officer of Romsey Fire Brigade..." Such examples, while not particularly worrying, hardly encourage the general public to perceive the Brigade as a County Service.
Such a change would not, of course, affect the use of "Chief Fire Officer" as the proper description of rank.
RECOMMENDATION That the title of the "County Fire Officer" be adopted by the Chief Fire Officer of Hampshire Fire Brigade.

In any fire company or fire district, the fire chief shall establish and define his or her forest fire district and jurisdiction and shall designate a qualified resident of each district to serve as authorized senior officer.

On the occurrence of a fire outside the fire area for which a Fire Brigade is established, the senior officer on duty in the fire area may proceed with the Fire Brigade of which he is in charge to the place where the fire has occurred and assist in extinguishing the fire.

He will ask for $60,000 for future replacement of fire apparatus, $75,000 to put in a capital reserve fund for the replacement of the Kingston’s Main Street fire station, and $29,000 for a full-time fire chief.
In terms of the fire chief position Hurley said as president of the New Hampshire Fire Chiefs and owning his own business, he does not have time to dedicate to the amount of work that needs to be done.

The Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority have agreed to the request from Chief Fire Officer Malcolm Eastwood for him to be allowed to retire after 35 years in the service.
CFO Eastwood is expected to remain in post until his successor is appointed.
In 1984 Mr Eastwood was promoted to Assistant Chief Fire Officer responsible for Personnel, Recruitment and Training which was followed in 1988 by his transfer to Gloucestershire as Deputy Chief Fire Officer, becoming Chief three years later.
