Jamir, the Chief Minister on the 16th of May, 1994 thereby putting an end to the continued ethnic clashes.

Former Nagaland chief minister Hokishe Sema was on Monday unanimously elected leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party legislature party, which made its maiden entry in state politics by clinching seven seats in the just-concluded election, party sources said.
He spearhead the Congress debut in Nagaland, the first national party in the state, in the late seventies, but severed connection with it due to his differences with chief minister S C Jamir in 1994.
He became chief minister for the second time in 1986 for a brief period and again in 1987 after the sixth assembly elections in Nagaland.

In spite of the continuing cease-fire between the Government and the militant outfits, Nagaland continues to witness factional violence, which is an indication of the deepened factional schism between militant outfits and the intransigent nature of the insurgency in the State.
Unabated factional clashes between the two warring factions of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) indicate that the cease-fire agreements signed between the Union Government separately with the Isak-Muivah faction of the NSCN in 1997, and the Khaplang faction of the NSCN-K in 2001 are being violated at will.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, while presenting the State Budget in the Legislative Assembly in capital Kohima on March 20, 2006, stated: “It is not possible for any Government to prevent this (extortion) completely.”

 Rio sworn in as Nagaland chief minister
Neiphiu Rio, leader of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland, was sworn in as chief minister on Thursday.
Governor Shymal Dutta administered the oath of office and secrecy to Rio, 22 Cabinet ministers and six ministers of state at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Kohima.
Among those present in the ceremony were former chief ministers and members of DAN constituents.

GOC, Nagaland, Major General RN Kapur said at least 3,000 Naga youths would be recruited in the Army, Assam Rifles and India Reserve Battalion this year and hoped the youth would avail the opportunity to join the armed forces.

An even greater threat to a lasting settlement comes from elected representatives in the northeast, including chief minister Jamir and the chief ministers of the neighboring states of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, parts of which are inhabited by Naga tribes.

Nagaland Assembly never scrutinized those acts, including the constitutional amendments, to know their impact on the state, Rio said adding till date the State did not have any mechanism to identify those acts of Parliament that should not be applied to Nagaland unless the Legislative Assembly by a resolution so decided.

It was brought to the attention of the Union home ministry that this was the second instance of the NSCN (K) planning criminal action against an individual and publicly claiming responsibility.
The Centre was also informed that the NSCN (K) had threatened to kill (once again calling it “capital punishment”) a police officer heading the team investigating bogus appointments of teachers in the Nagaland education department and false pension cases.
