		My impression--informed by events in the penultimate episode--is that Tellus was considered a sacred burial ground by the Chigs, which is why the soldiers wouldn't enter the caves.
		Keep in mind that this was a truly interstellar culture, drawing on centuries of space-faring tradition--and that it was an empty cosmos until mankind joined them on the interstellar plains--so it makes sense that they have spread out and designated planets in other star systems for various usages.
