		The founder of the Ryû, Sakai Chikuho I was born in Osaka on October 15, 1892 (Meiji 25).
		According to Chikuho's biography in the Chikuho Ryû Shakuhachi Tebiki, the initial factor for the misunderstanding was Chikuho having transcribed a newly composed sokyoku piece, Mizuho no Sakae (瑞穂の栄)after hearing it on the radio, Without, his teacher's permission.
		Chikuho II actively disseminated the repertoire handed down by his father, leaning primarily in the direction of the Fuke Shû koten honkyoku.

		This piece, composed by Moroi Makoto in close collaboration with Chikuho II in 1964, is considered by many to be one of the greatest modern compositions for solo shakuhachi.
		In a fashion similar to the relationship between his father and his uncle, Chikuho II relied on the help of his younger brother, Shôdô, in managing the ryû.
		The instructions concluded by stating that those who did not return a completed form to Shôdô by April 15, 1985 would no longer be considered accredited by Chikuho Ryû; their names and the names of their students publicly expelled (hanryû) from the membership roles of the sect.

		Fukumoto Takudo started his studies of the shakuhachi back in 1971 under the surveillance of SAKAI Chikuho (born 1933) who is the head of the CHIKUHO-ryu,a traditional shakuhachi-school based in Osaka.
		Just 2years later he united with some of the other students of SAKAI chikuho to form the musical cast Kaze no Kai(The 'Group of the wind') whose main objective was to revive the spirit of the old Fuke-Zen -Buddhism tradition.
		Bsides playing the classic HONKYOKU solo pieces for shakuhachi,FUKUMOTO tries to create a new contemporary,freely improvised style of music which is inspired by the Zen-Buddhists tradition.This also meant having to cooperate with artists from different backgrounds of music,dancing,theatre,recitation and painting.

	FINE 20th c. Japanese WATERFALL SCROLL, MIZUTA CHIKUHO
		The Natchi falls have been a Buddhist retreat since at least the time of the Gempei wars almost a thousand years ago, and are a favorite subject among Nihonga artists.
		The unusually small scroll is only 6-1/2 by 57 inches (16.5 x 145 cm) and is in excellent condition.
		Mizuta Chikuho was an Osaka Nanga artist trained under Himejima Chikugai, a Nihon Nangain member often displayed at the Nitten and, in fact, bestowed with the honor of judge for the prestigious event in his later years.
