 [No title]
Intervention: Clinical child psychologists are involved in both the prevention of disorder in high risk children (e.g., children at risk for conduct disorder, delinquency, depression) and in the treatment of children and families with a recognized problem or disorder.
Clinical child psychologists consult with professionals representing a variety of disciplines, including pediatricians, child psychiatrists and child neurologists, child protection workers, teachers, nurses, childcare providers, social workers, lawyers and others concerned with the prevention and alleviation of children's problems or their placement in appropriate caregiving and educational environments.
Consultation: Clinical child psychologists must be knowledgeable about the range of emotional, behavioral, and social problems characteristic of different phases of child and adolescent development and have knowledge of the roles and relationships with other professionals with whom the clinical child psychologist interacts, e.g., school, legal, and medical personnel.

Psychologists generally avoid conducting a child custody evaluation in a case in which the psychologist served in a therapeutic role for the child or his or her immediate family or has had other involvement that may compromise the psychologist's objectivity.
A psychologist asked to testify regarding a therapy client who is involved in a child custody case is aware of the limitations and possible biases inherent in such a role and the possible impact on the ongoing therapeutic relationship.
Although comprehensive child custody evaluations generally require an evaluation of all parents or guardians and children, as well as observations of interactions between them, the scope of the assessment in a particular case may be limited to evaluating the parental capacity of one parent without attempting to compare the parents or to make recommendations.

 Child Psychologists Spread Materialism
A clinical child psychologist for nearly 20 years, Kanner works with children from the inner city and the wealthy suburbs.
In an effort to protect children against aggressive marketing tactics, Kanner and other child advocates are taking aim at child psychologists who share their expertise with advertising and market research firms for a fee, helping them to tailor successful strategies that will reach America’s youngest consumer group — and their parents.
Dr Tim Kassell, a psychologist at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, who specializes in studying materialism, said people who are highly focused on materialistic values report less satisfaction with life, seem less happy, have a higher incidence of unsatisfactory interpersonal relationships, are more prone to drug and alcohol abuse and contribute less to their community.

Children are as varied as adults in their ability to handle tragedy and fear, so there is no perfect way to help them understand and cope.

As child psychologists, McClure and Saffer do most helpfully just what Dr. Spock in his earliest writings used to do: they encourage fathers to become familiar with the stages of child development, especially as a means of avoiding some of the devastating emotional toll that normal (though obnoxious) child behavior can take on loving parents.
These psychologists are not afraid to be prescriptive, and notwithstanding the depth and subtlety of their understanding, their advice is phrased in terms that are simple and direct.
