Childhood Hodgkin's lymphoma is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the lymph system.
Childhood Hodgkin's lymphoma is a type of cancer that develops in the lymph system, part of the body's immune system.

The chance of recovery (prognosis) and choice of treatment depend on the stage of the cancer (whether it is just in one area or has spread throughout the body), the type of symptoms that are present, and the age and overall condition of the child.
For example, a child with stage I disease without any symptoms is said to have stage IA disease; a child with stage I disease with symptoms is said to have stage IB disease.
Treatment for childhood Hodgkin's disease depends on the type and stage of disease and how the stage was determined, as well as the child's age, symptoms, and general health.

NIH Press Release - Researchers Clone Gene Linked to Childhood Eye Disease - 03/02/1997
However, the most prominent feature of the disease is the appearance of a progressive and often blinding degeneration of the macula, the central part of the retina that provides reading vision.
This is surprising because Stargardt's disease causes a loss of central vision, which is generated by the cone-shaped cells that proliferate in the macula at the center of the retina.
As the RPE becomes more diseased, it may in turn cause the degeneration to spread to the nearby cone cells in the macula, leading to the characteristic loss of central vision.

Our findings also highlight the need to invest in health research to obtain data for burden of disease (both mortality and morbidity) from regions of the world where such information does not exist...

But GAS bacteria are relatively common and also cause a range of other diseases ranging from sore throats to toxic shock and "flesh-eating" disease.
By isolating GAS bacteria from a person with the disease, scientists from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) have discovered several genes that are unique to those bacteria.
The study was directed by James Musser, Ph.D., chief of the laboratory of human bacterial pathogenesis at NIAID's Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Hamilton, Mont. Dr. Musser and his colleagues from several institutions determined the genetic blueprint of a GAS strain taken from a patient with rheumatic fever.
