War Publication- Nancy Carlsson Paige and Diane E. Levin
The Butter Battle Book is one of the few resources that acknowledges a world situation which many children know about, and it provides a way for sincere and reassuring adults to set the stage for children to raise the issue.
Following the reading of the book, it is important for parents and teachers to look for signs of childrens awareness and concern about bombs and nuclear threat in their behavior and to initiate individual discussions with children who indicate an awareness.
In several classrooms where The Butter Battle Book was read to young children (4 to 6 years old) for the first time, we saw children respond to the book in a variety of ways.

Amazon.ca: Books: The New Oxford Book of Children's Verse
Neil Philip may be right that The New Oxford Book of Children's Verse is the anthology for today's children, if today's children are those who find poetry a dead or deadening thing.
Although it is hardly the only example in this book of Philip's seeming inability to tell the difference between poetry for children and poetry about children, it may well be the most egregious.
This is a book bursting with vitality and variety: over 350 poems by more than 200 poets, in which narrative poems, concrete verse and performance poetry with poems of the classroom and...

New Book Examines Controversy Over Childrens Testimony
While the book focuses on children's testimony in sexual abuse cases, its message is relevant for the entire range of cases involving children as witnesses, including acrimonious custody decisions, neglect proceedings and witnesses to crimes.
Whenever possible (and as soon as possible) interviews with children in cases where sexual abuse is suspected should be electronically preserved (audio- or videotaped), ideally from the first interview on -- not just transcripts or notes and not just from the point when a child begins to disclose.
However, they also note that it would be ethically impermissible to interview children in the laboratory as intensively as they have been in real cases, much less to sexually abuse them in the name of science.

Amazon.com: Unspeakable Acts: Why Men Sexually Abuse Children: Books
I discussed my experience with a friend who works in the field of protecting children from abuse and concluded that perhaps since the book is six years old, it is no longer 'current' with today's views.
My second experience of this book is that it started out by trying to elicit sympathy for the perpetrators of sex crimes against children, by telling me of the sexual abuse inflicted upon them as children.
I didn't get past the second chapter; perhaps there are words of value further into the book, but since I found myself skipping over whole sentences and even paragraphs, in order to dig my way out of the excessive words, I put the book in the trash, rather than on my book shelf.

Children of the age this book is aimed at are not fully able to critically analyze issues, of which I'm sure the author is aware.
And, if your criticism is that its a book aimed as children again I find it tame compared to, say, conservative Christian churches offering sermons and Sunday School classes (where many attending are obviously children) where being a democrat or liberal is effectively presented as a mortal sin.

 Book Review: Gender Identity Disorder
Yet this book is of value to such clinicians for several reasons: the family histories associated with childhood GID are closely related to the common developmental pathways leading to homosexuality; and as research has shown, the majority of gender-disordered children grow up to be homosexual or bisexual.
Gender Identity Disorder and Psychosexual Problems in Children and Adolescents, by Kenneth Zucker, Ph.D. and Susan Bradley, M. Kenneth Zucker is well-known and much-published in the area of gender- identity disorder (GID) in children; his new book, with co-author Susan Bradley, provides some quite useful information.
Rekers says that follow-up results of over 50 gender-disturbed children suggest permanent changes in gender identity, and he believes that a preventive treatment for "transvestism, transsexualism, and some forms of homosexuality has indeed been isolated," although Zucker and Bradley express mild skepticism due to the lack of formal substantiation of this conclusion.
