You can thicken the chili with flour and water (even if you have to add more liquid to the chili to have something to thicken), or you can make more chili of a mild type and mix with the original.

This recipe comes from a "chili expert" friend in San Angelo, Texas, and is very close to his father's 1993 Champion Chili of the World Recipe.
As a side note, I am not a chili snob and have no probem with "yankee chili" (tomatoes, chili powder, beans and ground beef), but this recipe (loosely taken from a bag of dried chili peppers) is incredibly good tasting.

I make a LOT of chilis and I made this one last week which is a mix-match of ingredients from other Zaarite chili recipes and some from my own.
A keeper.I served it with corn bread, and a dish of sour cream on the side....my son ate his bowl with corn bread, the took another bowl with sour cream and ate it with tortilla chips...needless to say I'll be making this often.
This is the only chili recipe I will use.It has the most wonderful flavor.I do cut the brown sugar to 1/4 cup and use 2 cans pinto and 2 cans kidney beans.

It was mostly red beans, which is okay, but I wouldn't call it chili.
If you like your chili to be the con carne variety, however, you might want to try something else, like the Alpine Air Tamale Pie with Beef, as the omission of meat is notable to the palate.
That said, this meal has a nice level of spice and heat (though some might want to add more heat) and is rather tasty, if you don't mind the absence of beef.
