Chiltern Railways and Railtrack is opening a new rail control centre which will improve punctuality and safety by bringing multiple functions under one roof.
Chiltern says its new centre will bring together the owner of the track and signalling infrastructure, those responsible for track maintenance, and other train operating companies.

I too have nothing but praise for the Chiltern Railways staff, and I'm also impressed by their MD/Customer Relations Manager (sorry can't bring her name to mind) because her letters and updated are frequent and written in good old plain English.
Chiltern Railways have done their best to provide a satisfactory service in the circumstances and have regularly communicated what is going on to their customers (even though their compensation arrangements are a little unfair on those who have travelled via alternative routes).

Porterbrook Leasing Company Ltd today announced that Chiltern Railways had agreed to lease a further six cars of the Class 168 Turbostar derivative.
This brings to 52 the number of Class 168 cars leased by Chiltern from Porterbrook - the order for the first of which, placed in 1996, brought an end to the 1062 day drought in new rolling stock orders for Britain’s railways.

Chiltern, which is owned by M40 Trains, insisted on inserting a new clause into the contract, signed in February with the government-backed Strategic Rail Authority.
The clause indemnifies Chiltern against any financial loss caused by "any change which results in a loss or reduction in the independence or change in the jurisdiction of the regulator".
He said Chiltern, which has pledged to spend an initial £371m on new trains and station improvements, was investing "a very substantial amount of private money".

A spokesperson for Chiltern Railways this morning apologised for the inconvenience caused by the situation, which he said was beyond the company's control.
The Gerrards Cross station will remain closed until further notice and Chiltern Railways announced that an emergency timetable is in operation on the route.
