In any case, yet a third school asserts that the pharyngohyal has been misidentified and that the chimaeroid first branchial arch is fully equivalent to the hyoid of sharks [C88].
In this regard, we may note that -- whatever chimaeroids may be -- all chimaeriforms show a remarkable amount of novelty and creativity in the development of labial or "premandibular" cartilages.

 Palaeos Vertebrates 70.400 Chondrichthyes: Holocephali
(1994) is a paper with an all-star cast of authors and a very firm conclusion: the tooth plates of chimaeriforms are ordinary chondrichthyan dentition.
Each chimaeriform tooth plate represents a single tooth family, usually with two members which grow throughout the life of the animal in a perfectly normal shark-like way.
In extinct chimaeriforms, they identify similar structures, and derive the nature of the probable intermediates and variants yet to be discovered.

I have continued to pursue my research on chimaeroid fishes, which, although they are a small group, are very poorly understood and hence there is still a lot of work to do.
My current research is primarily taxonomic in nature and my goal is to identify all of the new species of chimaeroids and complete a revision of the Order Chimaeriformes.
There are probably at least 10 new species awaiting description and the actual number of new species may be more than that.
