  Chimaira - Chimaira
This self-titled record is Chimaira’s third album and is their most progressive and forceful effort yet.
“Chimaira” is more ‘musical’ than their other material, there are parts where Mark Hunter’s voice differs from the usual metal roar to melodic vocals and the guitars occasionally change to tuneful riffs rather than the expected grinding and pounding noise of previous songs.
Due to the nature of Chimaira’s vocals, which tend to be angry screams and furious shouts, it has always been the job of the guitars to give the songs a melody.

 Chimaira CD Reviews
Chimaira's "The Impossibility of Reason" does what many others in their genre cannot: Create a style of extreme music that leads to songs that are still recognizable as songs and not simply a chaotic cacophony of musicians playing as fast and heavy as they can.
Chimaira were formed in 1998 in Cleveland and released an EP titled "This Present Darkness." Be sure to check out both albums to experience real metal.
Worth noting is Chimaira's use of electronic synthesizers to achieve some totally striking musical effects and their dark and twisted lyrics that dominate this CD with blistering words that pierce the soul.

Chimaira is Chimaira, from the opening note of the brain damagingly heavy “Nothing Remains,” which Hunter reveals was written the day Dimebag Darrell was murdered, saying “The song has nothing to do with the situation, but musically, it's brutal and anger-filled, and the shooting brought out the feelings.

Chimaira offer nothing that better bands haven't already done to death and back -- Fear Factory, Slayer, Sepultura and Deftones are all so obvious reference points that making a case for Chimaira's originality seems impossible.
Chimaira excel in grunting vocals, pounding energy and constantly driving rhythms, stomp-thrashing their way through these twelve tracks, barely, if ever, pausing for breath as they go along.
Chimaira lack the songs to back up their sound.

Chimaira's hooks -- like Hatebreed's and Throwdown's hooks -- have a way of staying with you, and their songs are simply better constructed than many of their competitors' songs.
It should be noted that The Impossibility of Reason is Chimaira's first album since the departure of drummer Andols Herrick; this time, the drummer is Kevin Talley of Dying Fetus fame (or infamy), and he proves to be a welcome addition to the band on this sledgehammer of a CD.

With the addition of new drummer Kevin Talley, who adds an even greater degree of rhythmic precision and aggression, Chimaira further refines its unique combination of old-school thrash and modern death metal.
Though Chimaira's electronic element is more subtle than on previous albums, well-placed sound effects add to the record's intense spookiness, particularly on the epic seven-and-a-half minute closer "Lazarus," a chilling, yet strangely sensitive, narrative about a friend's suicide.
