The University's insistence in the Agreement that students on the course at HKCT and SCAU are not students of the University, an insistence that contributed to the decision to transfer the collaboration from City University to the College, has implications for the limitation of its responsibilities toward its students.
During discussions with University staff, the audit team was told that, as this was a partnership with a reliable institution, the University could assume that regulations would be followed by the College, and that the Assessor's role was to ensure that administrative arrangements in the collaborative link were adequate.
The University may wish to reflect on the software requirements in relation to the new course being introduced in September 2001, and on means of ensuring the availability of journals to support study of the new syllabus.

The model explicitly expresses the inter-sector relationship between the agricultural sector and the rest of the economy, that relationship among all sub-sectors within the agriculture, the inter-regional relationship among various regions in the Jiangsu Province, and the physical, economic and policy constraints facing the agriculture.

 Cornell hosts agricultural delegation from China
Six Chinese agricultural education officials met with selected Cornell faculty on campus in Ithaca and at the Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, May 5 through May 8, to discuss genetics, plant breeding, biotechnology, food science, plant protection, the reduction of pesticide use and environmental protection.
The concern in the People's Republic of China is that, with its population expected to reach 1.6 billion people in 2030, there is a correlative need for food production increases of 150 to 260 millions tons annually, which is an increase of more than 50 percent over the country's 1990 agricultural productivity.
At the same time, there is an agricultural plan to increase farmer's income in China, alleviate poverty and increase education for 65 million Chinese children, said Haldeman.

Cheng’s studies show that by the mid-1990s, such livestock factory farms, non-existent in China before 1979, were able to supply 15 percent of China’s pork, 25 percent of its eggs, 40 percent of its broiler chickens, and 50 percent of its milk.
Of particular interest to the workshop’s Chinese audience was the 22-year-old Dutch manure policy, which is aimed at reducing nitrate and phosphate leaching from livestock wastes into groundwater, emissions of ammonia and nitrous oxide into the atmosphere, and eutrophication of surface waters.

 CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT FOR PLANT PEST MANAGEMENT IN ASIA-PACIFIC
Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU), directly administered by the Ministry of Education (formerly by both Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Education) of China, is a key national university of higher learning and is one of the earliest higher education establishment of agriculture in China.
Agricultural universities therefore need to develop new subjects and modify existing traditional disciplines in order to meet the challenges of new technologies.
Undergraduate education of plant protection in China is confronted with the challenges from new technologies, the reformation of centrally-planned economic system to that of market-oriented, the extent of plant protection requirement from preplanting to post-harvest, and the need for sustainable agriculture development.

 Cornell News: Lehman meets China Agricultural University president
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The president of the China Agricultural University (CAU), Chen Zhangliang, has invited Cornell University President Jeffrey S. Lehman to Beijing, China, to deliver a keynote lecture in September 2005, to 120 university presidents from China and around the world.
Given the importance of agriculture, Chen said that he was concerned that fewer Chinese students seek out an agriculture-related education than in the past.
The two met in the A.D. White House on the Cornell campus May 6 on the morning of Slope Day, which, Lehman explained to an amused Chen, is the annual student event to celebrate the last day of classes at Cornell.

He was a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors of the University of Chicago for the Argonne National Laboratory and served as chairperson of their Science and Technology Advisory Committee.
