In November 1948 the whole north-east of China was liberated and the university was ordered to move to Shenyang.
In 1948 and 1949 it absorbed the medical school formerly operated by the (Japanese) South Manchuria Railway (the South Manchuria Medical College, later called the Shenyang Medical College which had opened in 1911) and the Mukden Medical College - sometimes spelled Moukden Medical College which had been founded in 1892.

Xining Pang from China Medical University in Shenyang reported that mesenchymal stem cells could be induced to differentiate into neural cells in vitro, by the antioxidant beta-mercaptoethanol.

China's first foundation to help reporters injured during their working was founded in Shenyang on Monday, capital of China's northeast Liaoning province.
The foundation was initiated by the Shengjing Hospital affiliated to China Medical University with China's seventh Reporter's Day approaching, which falls on November 8th.
