China Xinhua Airlines was founded in Aug. 1992, with the headquarter established in Beijing, Its operating bases were set in Capital international airport and Tianjin Binhai International airport, mainly dealing with domestic passenger and freight transportation.
In Feb. 2001, it was reassembled by Shenhua group and HNA group and became a chief enterprise in HNA air transportation group.
Before being reassembled, Xinhua airlines has set up an almost complete system of flight transportation, maintenance, marketing, air and land service, control and safety management and obtained good performance, keep a record of no accident for 8 years.

Hainan Airlines, in which US financier George Soros has a 14.8% stake, China Xinhua Airlines, Shanxi Airlines and Chang'an Airlines will be merged into a single group with headquarters in Beijing, the Shanghai Morning Post reported, citing an unamed company official.
China began consolidating its aviation industry in late 2002 when most smaller, regional airlines were merged into one of the "big three" — flag carrier Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines.
