And all of this from a dude who writes for the Chronicle, meaning that Berkeley is one of two significant universities in the area that would happen to host a touring author in the one part of the whole frickin' country where two Chinatowns are located within ~10 miles of eachother (SF and Oakland).
If anything, the apologists have more to do with the high Chinese community population than with any resident radicalism in Berkeley.
