The Chinese characters for manhua are actually the same characters used for Japanese manga and Korean manhwa.
Chinese comics include "all the forms and styles of cartoons, comics, and lianhuantu (a traditional illustrated storybook)", according to Wendy Siuyi Wong, author of Hong Kong Comics: A History of Manhua (ISBN 1568982690).
Chinese manhua was born in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, roughly during the years 1867 to 1927."

The narration of a comic is set out through the layout of the images, and whilst there may be many people who work on one work, like films, there is one vision of the narrative which guides the work.

The term comics itself derives from early newspaper strips, which featured a variety of genres, but were largely gag humor, hence the adjective comic.

In Chinese, man hua is the term used to describe comics of any origin.
Similarly to manga (Japanese) and manwha (Korean), man hua is an appropriate way to refer to Chinese comics in English.

Besides mentioning a huge debt to manga in spurring the latest round of Chinese comic art, he says “My ambition, my dream is to grasp the essence of ancient Chinese history, culture and thought and bring it to the world".
A show set 500 years from now where Chinese people live under something that is not a direct descendent or at least a clear inheritor of the current political system would obviously cause concern.

 Sequential Tart: Spotlight On - Comic Books in the PRC: A New Beginning (vol V/iss 11/November 2002)
Though interesting, these comics seemed to represent a pretty narrow range compared to what you might find even on the comics shelf in Barnes and Noble, but since the whole bookstore was a little narrow in it's selection of entertainment oriented books, I decided I'd look again in a bigger city.
Of course some people wrote sci-fi, some people may have produced comics, but they are not famous; there doesn't seem to be the same warm nostalgia for any Golden Age or the authors thereof as we often see in the US.
In other words, though comic books are still in some sense on the fringe, everyone knows where to find them, and those who want to join the industry may have trouble, but not for the lack of knowing the process.

I hate it when comic book creators cite only film directors or prose authors as their major influences, usually adding a snide, "I haven't really read comics since I was in HIGH SCHOOL" under their breath.
But that was illustrated by comics mega-talent Derek Kirk Kim (back when he was just Derek Kirk), so the Rosary Comic Book is my first published project where I'm not coat-tailing Derek (though I LOVE coat-tailing Derek and do it every chance I get).
My very first comic book was a children's Bible (I loved it so much, it fell apart from all my readings), but this is the first religious comic I've heard of since that I really want to read.

As for chinese comics, they fell mainly into two types: Xiao Ding Dang (Doraemon) which I followed really religiously and Astroboy, which I got to read when I visited my cousins in Johor Bahru.

OK, maybe not too exciting, but it's kinda neat seeing actual Chinese instead of the random scribbles that often are used instead.
I think one of my pet peeves is fakey Chinese character scribbles in the comics.

E.J.Su I cannot believe now people are using different pronounciations of 2 exact same Chinese characters to categorize Asian comics now.
I've found it difficult to find Chinese comics in the UK since the late 1980s when they used to turn up in Chinese food stores...and when Jademan made a sudden burst onto the scene but then vanished.
Demon Warrior [Korean?] was the last of the comics I found going back to the mid-1990s in a comic shop cheapo bin.
