It just seems illogical to hang on every interpreted word in the Quran or any religious book, nothing should be taken that way, but the overall picture should.Which is why I totally agree with what you say, and I am still a muslim.
It just seems like chinese whispers to me, dragged over centuries, it doesn't really mean anything, because we'll never know what it really meant.
The Chinese Muslim Population is estimated at 1.4% of the total, But there are enough neighboring countries with large Muslim populations to quickly overrun China.
