 Miracle of St. Maximinus
The text of the charter had been scraped off and thus this parchment was essentially "scrap" material to be used for a draft.
According to tradition, Maximus of Chinon was a disciple of Martin who left the Touraine for the monastery of Ile-Barbe, located in Lyon.
Some years later, returning to the region, Maximus was miraculously detained on the banks of the Vienne river at Chinon, where he then founded the abbey which was to hold his tomb.

 William Marshal
Written on parchment, and in many cases discarded as expendable ephemera within a few weeks, let alone years, of their writing, an incalculable number of charters have perished without trace.
Most scribes would use fresh parchment for this task, but on occasion, as in the present instance, when materials were short, or to save on expense, an older document or draft might be recycled to provide a sealing strip.
Such cannibalization of parchment can be compared to the much more familiar practice of recycling parchment deeds as paste-downs or as the outer covers in the binding of later books and manuscripts.

 Templars
On 13 September last year, the historian Barbara Frale discovered a document in the depths of the Secret Vatican Archives regarding the trial of the Knights Templar, which the scientific community had believed lost for centuries.
It is an original document from the inquiry led by Clement V during the summer of 1308, the only papal inquiry into the Templar Order, which had been tried by Philip the Fair with the aid of the French Inquisitor William of Paris, acting on his own initiative, thereby subsequently attracting papal punishment.
When the Cardinals whom the Pope had sent to Chinon to interrogate the Grand Master on his behalf presented their account of the inquiry, the Pope was able to confirm his suspicions.

Letter Never Sent » Blog Archive » Pope Secretly Pardoned Templars
Barbara Frale, a researcher at the Vatican School of Paleontology, said that the consensus among historians was that Clement V, who was himself French and a former Archbishop of Bordeaux, had been pliant and weak, and had colluded in Philip the Fair’s scheme to wipe out the Templars and seize their fortune.
But documents found in the Vatican archives, including a long-lost parchment, proved that the Pope had in fact manoeuvred ‘with skill and determination’ to ensure that his own emissaries questioned de Molay and other leading Templars in the dungeons of Chinon castle in the Loire in 1308, in what amounted to a papal trial.

At evening the lancet windows of old Chinon still reflect the glories of a sunset which for miles and miles bathes with prodigal loveliness a fair, wide-spreading land of tranquillity and plenty.
And it is at Fierbois, near Chinon, in lovely Touraine, that her most famous shrine is situated.
And that surrender made, he can turn even death into a victory, and if life be denied him, can welcome with a soldier's salute the falling away of the chains of his mortal flesh, the unbarring of the bright doors of eternity.

 Re: Exonerated? Excecuted actually
About this 'lost parchment' from the Vatican archives---It seems as though the paleontologist in question may have possibly confused the terms 'verdict', 'exoneration', and 'absolution'.
But,unfortunately, after they had'retracted' their earlier retractions, they could now be legally considered as 'relapsed heretics' and so subject to execution.
Shortly after this meeting took place, these five leaders were then removed to the dungeons at Chinon, where they languished in prison.

 RELICS OF SAINT JOAN
I was told that when these objects originally were found in Paris sometime during the Second Empire (1852-1870), they were in a phial that was found among a collection of old medicines.
When they were found this phial and the parchment that was attached to it were dated to the seventeenth century.
The parchment had a barely readable inscription that said, 'Remains found beneath the scaffold site of Jeanne d' Arc, Maid of Orleans.' When the contents of the phial were examined in the 1860's, it was found to contain three bone fragments, two of which turned out to be animal and the other human.
