Chiptune - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chiptune or chip music is music written in sound formats where all the sounds are synthesized in realtime by a computer or video game console sound chip, instead of using sample-based synthesis.
Historically, the "chips" used were sound chips like the analog-digital hybrid Atari POKEY on the Atari 400/800, the MOS Technology SID on the Commodore 64, the Yamaha YM2149 on the Atari ST and ZX Spectrum, and the Yamaha YM3812 on IBM PC compatibles.
Generally chip tunes consist of basic waveforms, such as sine waves, square waves and sawtooth waves, and basic percussion, often generated from white noise going through an ADSR envelope controlled synthesizer.

Chip tunes are pieces of music written to be performed by a (in modern terms quite basic) sound chip.
Generally chip tunes consist of basic waveforms, such as sine waves, square waves and sawtooth waves, and basic percussion, often generated from white noise going through an ADSR controlled synthesizer.
Besides the computer game music artists of the home computer era (chiefly, the 1980s) there exists today a substantial part of the demoscene¹ making chip tunes, sometimes specific tone generating hardware and sometimes for general synths but with the same 'old-time feel' to them.

Chip starts the evening with the traditional Booker T. Jones "Green Onions" and the band is on its way -- what followed was one of the most inspirational tunes of the whole tour: "Cole's Law" featuring Kimock at his best accented beautifully by Chip's Hammond B-3.
Chip was leading the way, and Kimock and Martin managed to get off some great solos...one of the few tunes where "It" was happening to ALL of the band members at once.
All the passages of the tune were taken through their paces: a very nice Martin solo...the changing textures behind all the verses --each one seemed to enjoy a distinctive sound-- and, of course, the major outro jam...which gets us everytime.

The lead, and overall mood is incredibly upbeat and cheerful, it would go well at the end of a happy film about a group of friends who fall out and become friends again, well something like that anyway, it would have to be in a more suitable musical style though.
all the chip tune essentials are there, the beats and the bass are spot on, the cheesy melodies are right as well and the harmonies are chiptastic (sorry).

Breakthrough: Introducing chips that fix themselves IBM has revealed a breakthrough chip morphing technology, enabling a new class of semiconductor products that can monitor and adjust their functions to improve their quality, performance, and power consumption without human intervention.
If the technology detects that the chip is malfunctioning because individual circuits are running too fast or too slow, it can ‘throttle down’ these circuits or speed them up by controlling the appropriate local voltage.
An IBM invention Invented and refined by IBM scientists and engineers, eFUSE achieves a goal pursued by chip designers for many years by putting to positive use the phenomena of “electromigration.” This phenomenon has traditionally been detrimental to chip performance and was avoided — even at significant cost and effort.
