Chisholm was born in Oakville, Ontario, to a family with deep ties to the region.
Chisholm was now in the unique position of being able to brings his views on the importance of international mental and physical health to the world.
Chisholm was a controversial public speaker who nevertheless had great conviction, and drew much cynicism within the Canadian public for comments in the mid-1940s that children should not be encouraged to believe in Santa Claus.

George Brock Chisholm, past moderator of the American Unitarian Association, was born on May 18, 1896 in Oakville Ontario.
Characteristically, Chisholm brought his message to a world audience by stating, "The world was sick, and the ills from which it was suffering were mainly due to the perversion of man, his inability to live at peace with himself.
Leaving his office at 5 or later Brock Chisholm drives home around Lake Geneva in the car he took over from Canada (He doesn't use the limousine and chauffeur at his disposal) to the 100-year-old white stone house the Chisholms purchased last year, set on the steep slope of an abandoned vineyard overlooking the lake.

Chisholm appealed to the Lieutenant Governor for the use of the dredge from the Burlington Bay Canal and it was granted to him, saving time, effort and money because he did not have to build his own.
In spite of being expensive at the beginning, Chisholm’s vision of the harbour as a stepping off point for the development of his town was sound and accurate.
After the harbour was established, Chisholm could turn his attentions to the mills and the development of the land around the mouth of the Sixteen.

Chisholm’s shipyard was situated above the final curve of the Sixteen on the south bank, a part of the city that now represents the north end of Navy Street where the water is deep close to the shore.
The ship was built “to provide steamer service to and from the head of the lake to the capital at York both for passengers and freight.” Chisholm had been awarded the contract for his joint stock company that he had established for that very purpose.
William Chisholm’s nephew Duncan was a shipbuilder at Oakville as was John Potter who later became a carpenter and built many of the original houses in Oakville.

OWAHC was able to purchase and renovate the Custom House through a capital grant from the previous Ontario NDP government, and it remains a proud legacy of that government.

Commissioned by Robert Bruce Chisholm, the Chisholm Monument is the largest monument in the cemetery and will likely be the most expensive to refurbish and repair.
When her son died during a storm on Lake Erie, she blamed Captain Chisholm, and for revenge put the curse of Ireland on him: "May all your children die young and not one of them die in bed." Drownings, murders, and runaway horses are said to have caused the deaths.
Constructed in 1873 for Robert Bruce Chisholm by the London firm Hooker and Wilkens, it is an excellent example of Gothic funerary architecture and unusual in its form.

Galt, Ontario's Lex Chisholm, born on April 15th, 1915 spent part of one season of junior hockey with the Oshawa Generals before five more years of Senior hockey in that city, finishing in 1938-39, a year he also turned pro.
That season Chisholm not only led the Ontario Hockey Association's Sr division in assists and points, but the center/right winger also spent three games with the Syracuse Stars of the American Hockey League.
Chisholm was unable to resume his professional career, playing his final year in 1942-43 back in the Ontario senior hockey loop.

At the turn of the last century Ontario had a major percentage of its population on farms in rural areas.
The WI built a cairn in front of the Chisholm Central School and placed the bell from the old school, with a plaque, there commemorating the history of rural schools in the community.

In the late 1800s as the "new Ontario" was opened for settlement and business, the north was blocked out into townships and divided primarily into 100 acre lots.
Chisholm Township (1880) was named after Kenneth Chisholm who was an MPP and a successful businessman in Brampton.
Ryerson Township (1870) was named after Edgerton Ryerson, the Chief Superintendent of Education for Ontario from 1844 to 1876, and was one of the founders of Ontario's educational system (Ryerson University in Toronto is named after him).

The Town of Oakville owes its existence to the vision of Colonel William Chisholm (1788-1842), an enterprising merchant and shipbuilder.
In 1827, he bought 960 acres of land from the Crown at the mouth of the Sixteen Mile Creek on Lake Ontario to establish a port, shipbuilding yard and the village of Oakville.
Today, visitors to the Oakville Museum can take a guided tour of Erchless, the Chisholm Family Home, (c.1858), which is authentically restored to the elegance of its 1925 appearance.
