The Bonded Labour and Child Labour situation in Districts Varanasi and Jaunpur was reviewed in a meeting attended by the district officials and 32 out of a total of 33 NGOs involved in the running of NCLP schools in Varanasi.
In a special drive launched in the district during the period 1.4.05 to 30.6.05, a total of 62 bonded labourers were identified which included 24 children.
Detection of Bonded Labour in Mirzapur District has been very poor although it is widely believed to be infested with migrant bonded labour (largely children) from Bihar working at carpet looms in the villages.
