Editorial   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The maize “shortage” story from Likoma and Chizumulu is disheartening.
But to say that government officials, somewhere in Capital Hill, are yet to come up with a price tag for the maize is not only disheartening, but also surprisingly cruel and an insult to the people of Likoma and Chizumulu, and Malawi by extension.
For the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, the Likoma and Chizumulu “disaster” is an issue that seeks his immediate action, not the promises of “soon”, because the people out there are possibly going on empty stomachs or surviving on non-traditional alternatives that may be expensive or hazardous to health.
